Another film for We Make It Good about drifting around cities while traveling for work, or pleasure. We wanted to capture the feel of walking around alone with a camera and kind of treated the whole thing like a series of moving snapshots.

A short portrait for We Make It Good about my wife's daily routine as a streetstyle blogger. We followed her around as she sought out casual sartorial elegance. Not the easiest thing to find. She's since moved on to become an amazing stylist. You can find her HERE.

Through the production company Ghost Robot I wrote and directed this series of films to help promote the maiden voyage of The Great GoogaMooga, a New York based food festival organized by the creators of Bonaroo and Outside Lands.

Each video shows the creation of a signature dish from the chef's heightened perspective while simultaneously hinting at the unique personalities featured at the festival. We had about 4 hours to shoot each chef and ran through our shotlist at a break neck speed hoping we'd end up with enough footage to make something cool. According to Huffington Post and Creativity we did.

we make it good

founder, creative director, copywriter: clayton vomero

In 2008, I approached the emmy award winning production studio, Shilo, to build a brand around their internal creative think tank, We Make It Good. The objective was to engage the public with a culture-obsessed website that housed a mixture of film, music, art, writing and other forms of content, while simultaneously functioning as a collaborative sketchpad for WMIG to hone new ideas for clients. The site generated millions of hits over the course of a year through a vibrant showcase of art, design, parties, events, celebrity impersonators, and original film; helping WMIG's profile to quickly grow within the creative industry. WMIG's focus was on two initiatives: creating original content for wemakeitgood.com, and developing creative concepts for clients such as Ford, Amazon, Under Armour, The FADER, and more. During my tenure, I served as creative director for content on wemakeitgood.com, as well as in the development of creative concepts for our clients.

The video above is a montage of wemakeitgood.com-related activities from 2009 to 2010.

WMIG & the FADER
<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14599/359158/WebsitePics5.jpg" width="640" height="126" width_o="640" height_o="126" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14599/359158/WebsitePics5_o.jpg" data-mid="5762294"  border="0" align="left"/>
From 2009 to 2010, WMIG partnered with FADER magazine to create a stream of original content for their website and ours. This audio and video content was comprised of music, design, art, events, experiences, and much more. No matter what we were doing, we siezed the opportunity to make an engaging piece of content for the web at every step; filming photo shoots, making stop motion animation web flyers, or creating bizarre voice messages that play at the other end of a phone number for people to find on the internet or read off a poster on the street. Our goal was to create something that people could interact with outside of their computer; a mixtape to listen to while walking down the street, a party to dance at, or a phone number to call. If it wasn't something real or tangible, that you could step away from your desk to enjoy, then it wasn't for us.

Below are a few selections from the year long stream of content that I created for FADER Magazine and WMIG as lead creative director and writer.

In 2009, WMIG & FADER presented the We Make It Good Mix Series, a bimonthly series of downloadable "mixtapes" made by bands, musicians, and DJs. It rapidly took off in popularity, with over 10 thousand downloads per mix, garnering acclaim from music industry insiders and fans alike with it's patent blend of yet-to-be-released songs and freshly unearthed gems.

As creative director, I worked with a different DJ to formulate a concept for each mix. As they expressed the concept musically, designer Evan Dennis and I would work to create a visual depiction in the form of an album cover. Each mix would then be available for download in MP3 format from wemakeitgood.com with the custom covers embedded into the MP3, making it visible in itunes or on the iphone / ipod for the listener.

We challenged each DJ to do something unique and totally out of the ordinary from their usual approach - be it picking a theme like movie scores, or a genre like psychedelic world music - with the only rules being: no dead air and no train wrecks. These simple directions were in large part what made the series a huge success, yielding unexpected results from major indie bands and DJs who all had secret penchants for italian pop music or militant 70s funk.

Have a listen for yourself at wemakeitgood.com.

the pop up phonebooth

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14599/359158/Untitled-3.jpg" width="640" height="108" width_o="640" height_o="108" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14599/359158/Untitled-3_o.jpg" data-mid="5866113"  border="0" align="left"/>
We challenged ourselves to create a week long installation in a Manhattan storefront based on the theme of communication and came up with our own Phonebooth pop-up gallery. A good old fashioned telephone became our icon, a device that instills quaint feelings of nostalgia and illustrates the most direct way to communicate a message: from one human to another.

Our goal with the Phonebooth was to connect and communicate with the public in a multi-layered way- anonymously and personally - so plastering the town with enigmatic posters served as a gateway to ignite this exchange. The poster shows a man obscured by the piece of paper he’s holding. The only information gleaned is an 888 phone number beckoning to be dialed. The simplicity of the image of course belied its complexity and resulted in thousands of phone calls. Intrigued dialers were greeted with a secret message that included the address of the We Make It Good Phonebooth and details about the party to come.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14599/359158/0308_Wheatpaste_Photo36x48__640.jpg" width="640" height="853" width_o="700" height_o="933" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14599/359158/0308_Wheatpaste_Photo36x48__o.jpg" data-mid="5717665"  border="0" align="left"/>

LEVI'S / the FADER / WMIG at SXSW

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14599/359158/6.jpg" width="640" height="108" width_o="640" height_o="108" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/14599/359158/6_o.jpg" data-mid="5866845"  border="0" align="left"/>
Based on the success of The WMIG / FADER Mix Series, WMIG was asked to curate the DJ lineup during the Levi's / FADER Fort's busiest day at SXSW. As creative director, I coordinated the day's schedule to feature a showcase of DJs with mixes already out and a preview of mixes to come. The 10 hour music marathon featured Blaqstarr, Paul Devro, Alex XXXChange, DJ Sega, Chris Devlin and more, while providing the perfect soundtrack for thousands of people dancing in the sweltering Texas sunshine.

FADER print ads
For the year that we curated the mix series, FADER ran a corresponding series of print ads in their magazine. We saw the ads both as an avenue to drive traffic to our websites and as an opportunity to create visual art by extending the We Make It Good mixes into a broader cultural vernacular.

After having such a great time making the PO PO video on Staten Island, we decided it only made perfect sense to shoot the album cover there as well. I collaborated with photographer Noah Conopask to create these images for the album, Dope Boy Magic, which will be out soon on Mad Decent.

In 2009, Under Armour became one of WMIG's primary clients. Over the course of that year, as creative director, I collaborated with their in house creative team to craft multiple intiatives that included broadcast spots, web content, and a year long sonic strategy based around an original piece of music that WMIG created. We all worked closely together, writing and presenting each concept to their internal departments and executives, to produce an exciting evolution of the Under Armour brand.

BROADCAST :60

Client: Under Armour
Concept: WMIG
Production Company: Shilo
Deliverables: Creative concept, one :60 script, 4 :90 scripts, one :60 broadcast spot, one :30 broadcast spot, 7 webfilms.
Directors: Andre Stringer, Clayton Vomero
WMIG Creative Director, Copywriter: Clayton Vomero
Shilo Associate Creative Director: Clayton Vomero

For Under Armour's 2010 campaign, WMIG focused completely on brand and on an evolution of the original slogan, "Protect This House"; now "Protect This House. I Will." Our job was to develop a series of broadcast commercials and web content that showed this evolution while still preserving their authentic sport's perspective. To do so, we crafted a series of broadcast commercials and longer form web content to tell the story of the Under Armour athlete. The broadcast spots served as "trailers" that showcased a visceral explosion of riveting athletic action to push viewers towards underarmour.com, where a deeper, richer story would be discovered. The webfilms showed the struggle, drive, and relentless determination behind the success of every Under Armour athlete. Reality was paramount to the brand, and these stories could not be a fantasy of who the UA athletes might be, rather, it had to be exact to who they are: gritty, real, and relentless, like all true competitors.

      The I Will Anthem

Client: Under Armour
Concept & Production: WMIG
Deliverables: a sonic strategy for 2010, an original musical theme, various edits for different commercial usage.
Creative Director: Clayton Vomero

As creative director, and producer, I crafted a year-long sonic strategy for Under Armour's 2010 campaign. The concept was to create an original piece of music for Under Armour to use as a foundation for a variety of content throughout the year; remixes, ringtones, music videos, signature dance moves, and more.

Our objective was to create a sound that was completely ownable for Under Armour; not a watered down version of an underground genre on the cusp or a disposable pop hit with no depth. It had to be completely unique, anthemic, and equally listenable on an iPod or in a stadium full of fans. With such a challenging piece of music to create we chose to forego working with a music house, and sought out a list of producers and musicians that we could work with directly. I managed the process from conception to completion and worked with a variety of musicians, producers, engineers, vocalists, and sound designers to complete the final product.

The result was an explosive piece of music that met the objective perfectly. Within days of being uploaded to the web, the music took on a complete life of it's own, helping to fuel 100s of thousands of youtube hits for the first commercial of the new Protect This House campaign.

Client: Under Armour
Concept: WMIG
Deliverables:  :60 and :30 script.
Creative Director, Copywriter: Clayton Vomero

As a creative director at WMIG, I led a team of writers to develop multiple concepts for the Under Armour ColdGear broadcast spot. The objective was to capture the visceral intensity that is synonomous with Under Armour while showing ColdGear apparel hard at work. The winning concept was based on the Under Armour Cold Abuse Simulator, a training facility where athletes face off against the simulated environmental abuse that they are subjected to while playing their sport. The spot featured olympic gold medalist, Lyndsay Vonn, climbing into a machine to face a punishing blast of snow and wind being expelled from a massive turbine.
